Nestled atop a secluded hillside, Quinta da Conceição is a hidden gem where history, nature, and elegance come together in perfect harmony. Once a noble estate dating back to 1715, this beautifully restored baroque manor house is surrounded by ancient cork oak forests, olive groves, and picturesque gardens, offering a setting that feels both timeless and intimate.
Wander through the charming Portuguese gardens, play a few lawn games while sipping a cocktail, descend the grand staircase towards the valley once visited by kings, or, if you are staying with us at the venue, take a dip in the magnificent saltwater pool, originally an 18th-century spring water tank. With sweeping views, and the gentle aroma of sun-warmed trees and wild herbs, this estate is more than a backdrop—it’s a place to truly immerse yourself in romance, celebration, and unforgettable memories. Welcome to our Portuguese garden wedding—a whimsical celebration of love, nature, and timeless charm.
Originally known as Quinta da Nossa Senhora da Conceição, this stunning estate was built in 1715 for Antonius Cremer, a Dutch nobleman, and his wife Lady Catharina Sofia van Zeller. The couple’s vision for the estate was one of devotion and legacy, with the construction of a chapel dedicated to the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mother of God, marked by a Latin inscription above its door.
Antonius Cremer, a knight of the Order of Christ, played a pivotal role in the Portuguese gunpowder industry, earning royal favor and visits from King João V. The estate saw the rise of Cremer’s fortunes, as he designed cutting-edge factories to supply the Portuguese navy. His wife, Lady Catharina, continued his work after his passing, becoming one of the most powerful women in Portugal.
Over the centuries, the estate passed through various hands, including the Vicount of Lançada and the de Sousa family, before falling into disrepair by the 20th century. In 1941, it was purchased by Carlos Ferreira, who commissioned architect António Lino to restore the manor, preserving its original grandeur.
Quinta da Conceição is a 40-minute drive south of Lisbon. If you're coming from Lisbon, you can take the A2 highway. If you cross the "25 de Abril" Bridge, be aware that it can sometimes have traffic, so it’s a good idea to allow extra time. Alternatively, you can take the "Vasco da Gama" Bridge, which tends to have less traffic, and then take the exit for Coina. From there, follow the signs to Azeitão. Once you reach Azeitão, follow the signs to Sesimbra/Arrábida. Once on that road, you have to be careful as it easy to miss the turn. Look out for the sign "Canais" to make the turn. From there on, you will be on a country-side road (not paved) and only a few minutes away.
The estate is located on a quiet, winding road, so we recommend using a GPS or navigation app for easy directions. Parking is available on-site.
The rooms at the Quinta are primarily reserved for our close family members, but there may still be limited availability for other guests. If you're interested in staying at the venue, please reach out to us, and we'll let you know if any rooms are available. Meals will be included during your stay, and guests are welcome to enjoy the beautiful swimming pool and peaceful surroundings, making it a perfect place to relax before and after the wedding celebration.
